Drywall Repair in Vail, CO
Showcase Drywall is a residential drywall repair company serving homes across Vail and Eagle County, Colorado. Our services cover holes, cracks, water damage, ceiling repair, and the drywall cut-outs other trades leave behind. We have been doing drywall work in this valley for 26 years. Call (970) 977-0247 and you will have a free quote within 24 hours.
Most of our residential drywall repair work falls into one of three packages:
The trade patch. An electrician or a plumber opened a wall or a ceiling and left you holes. We close them, match the surrounding finish, and paint so the repair cannot be found. Typically two or three days.
Water damage repair. A leak, a failed fitting, an ice dam. We cut out the wet drywall and the wet insulation, replace both, then finish, texture and repaint the ceiling or walls. Typically three to five days.
Refinishing services. Dated or damaged texture across a room, a stairwell or a hallway. We skim-coat the walls to a smooth finish and repaint.
“We get in and out in two or three days, keep your home perfectly clean, and when we’re done, no one can ever tell there was a repair.”
What our drywall repair service includes
Every drywall repair service call we run includes the same things, whether it is one hole or a whole ceiling:
- A free on-site visit, so the quote describes your actual drywall and not a guess
- Protection: the work area tented, floors and furniture covered before any drywall is cut
- Removal of damaged drywall, and of wet insulation where water was involved
- New drywall hung, taped and finished to the level the room's light calls for
- A finish matched to the surrounding surface and tested before it goes up
- Painting of the full wall or ceiling, included in the drywall repair service, not quoted as an extra later
- Daily cleanup, and a final clean when the drywall work is done
- A walkthrough with you at the end, and anything you are not happy with corrected
That is the whole service. There is no version of it where we skip the protection or the painting to come in cheaper, because those two steps are what make residential drywall repair worth paying for.
Service area: the Colorado towns we cover
Our office is in Eagle, in the middle of the service areas we cover. We take repair work in Vail, East Vail, Lionshead, Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch, Arrowhead, Avon, Edwards, Cordillera, Eagle-Vail, Minturn, Eagle and Gypsum, which is most of Eagle County. We also serve Summit County and the Roaring Fork Valley in Colorado, and we quote a repair in those areas the same way.
Because we are already in the county, a repair here does not wait on a crew driving up from Denver. That matters in winter, and it matters when a ceiling is open and you have guests arriving.
Drywall repair services for Vail homes
Hole repair
A doorknob, a piece of furniture, a ski pole, a dog. Small holes in drywall are the most common repair request we get. The repair itself is quick. Making it invisible is the part that takes skill, because the patched area has to carry the same finish and take paint the same way as the wall around it.
Repairing the cut-outs other trades leave
When an electrician runs new wiring or a plumber chases a leak, they cut into drywall to reach it. That is normal, and closing those openings is not their job. We come in behind them, close the drywall properly, match the finish and paint.
A home in Buckhorn Valley, Gypsum is a good example. New light fixtures and wiring left the owners with openings in an upstairs hallway, the living room and the basement family room. We patched every one, finished them smooth, matched the existing texture and painted. The repair took three days, and you cannot tell where the electrician was.
Water damage repair
Water damage is the repair people most often get wrong. A wet drywall ceiling gets painted over, or the stained drywall is patched while the soaked insulation above it stays where it is. The moisture has nowhere to go, and a few months later you are paying for mold remediation and a much larger repair.
Our water damage process is straightforward:
- 1. Find the extent of the damage, not just the stain.
- 2. Cut out the wet drywall.
- 3. Remove and replace the wet insulation.
- 4. Let the cavity dry before anything closes it up.
- 5. Hang new drywall, then tape, finish and texture to match.
- 6. Repaint, usually the full ceiling or wall rather than the patch.
A home in Bear Paw, Beaver Creek lost a section of ceiling when a fitting in the hot water heating system let go. We cut out a four foot by four foot area, replaced the soaked insulation, hung new drywall, then finished, matched and repainted the ceiling. Four days, and no sign anything happened.
Ceiling repair
Ceiling repair is harder than wall repair and it is priced accordingly. Everything works against you: gravity, sight lines, and the fact that a ceiling usually carries a sprayed texture that has to be matched from below. We repair ceilings after leaks, after sagging, after cracks at the seams, and after someone else’s patch failed.
A ceiling also shows more than a wall does. Light from a window crosses a ceiling at a shallow angle, so a patch that would disappear on walls can stand out overhead. On most ceiling repair jobs we repaint the entire ceiling for exactly that reason.
Crack repair
Cracks in walls at corners, along seams, and above doors and windows are common in mountain homes. Seasonal movement, dry air and settling all contribute. A crack filled with mud and painted over will come back. We cut it out, re-tape the joint properly, then finish and paint.
Nail pops and failed seams
When fasteners work loose, you get small round bumps or dimples across a drywall wall or ceiling, and tape lines that show as long straight ridges. We refasten the board, repair the surface and refinish it.
Garage drywall repair
Garage drywall takes abuse from bumpers, bikes, shelving and water off a vehicle in winter. Garage repair is also where we see the most unfinished and half-finished drywall in this valley, because the garage is the room the original builder economized on. We repair garage drywall, finish a garage that was never finished, and replace the lower sections of garage drywall where water and road salt have wrecked them.
Texture matching
Matching a texture is the difference between a repair and a visible patch. Residential drywall carries all sorts of finishes. Hand textures, knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, and the heavy hand finishes that were popular in Colorado valley homes 20 years ago all have to be read and reproduced. We match by hand where a sprayer cannot, and we test the match before it goes on the wall.
Skim coating and refinishing
When the texture across a whole room is dated or badly patched, repair stops making sense and refinishing takes over. Skim coating lays a new smooth surface over the old texture. The owners of a home in Strawberry Park, Beaver Creek had us strip a heavy hand texture from two stairwells and the connecting hallways, skim-coat every wall to a smooth Level 5 finish, and repaint. The home was furnished the entire time. Ten days, no dust anywhere else in the house.
Painting after the repair
Painting is part of the repair, not a separate favor. New mud takes paint differently from the surface around it, so a spot-painted patch catches the light even when the texture is right. Our painting covers the whole surface, and on a ceiling that means the whole ceiling.
Repair or replacement: when new installation is the better answer
Not every damaged surface should be repaired. Past a certain point, new drywall installation costs about the same as a repair and finishes better, and we will tell you when you have crossed that line.
Replacement and new installation usually win in four situations:
- The damage is spread out. Eight patches across one wall leave eight sets of seams. New drywall installation on that wall leaves two.
- The surface has been patched before, badly. Repairing a bad repair means chasing someone else's mud. A clean installation starts over.
- Water reached the framing. If the cavity, insulation and framing are wet, you are doing demolition either way, and installation of new board is the end of that job rather than a separate decision.
- The texture is unmatchable. Some old hand textures cannot be matched convincingly in a small area. Refinishing or new installation across the whole surface is the honest route.
Repair wins when the damage is contained, the surrounding surface is sound, and the texture is one we can reproduce. That describes most of the drywall repair work we do in Eagle County homes.
Residential drywall services in Eagle County
Our residential drywall services run from a single patch to a whole-home finish. For most homeowners in the county the list looks like this: drywall repair, ceiling repair, water damage repair, texture matching, skim coating and refinishing, garage drywall, new drywall installation for additions and remodeling, interior plaster, and painting after any of it. One crew, one standard, and one number to call for all of those drywall services. Homeowners across these areas use us for one service at a time or for all of them.
Why most drywall repairs are visible, and ours are not
Walk into a mountain home at four in the afternoon and look at the walls. Tall windows throw light across a surface at a shallow angle, and that light finds everything: a seam, a ridge, a slightly different sheen where a patch was painted.
Three things make a repair visible:
A finish that does not match. A sprayed patch in a hand-finished room will never blend. Neither will a hand-applied patch that is heavier or lighter than its surroundings.
Flashing. New mud is more porous than old painted drywall, so paint sits differently on it. The patched area reads duller or shinier than the rest. This is why we paint full surfaces.
A patch that is too small. Closing a hole with the smallest possible piece leaves four fresh seams in the middle of a sight line. Sometimes the right repair is a larger piece of board and fewer joints.
None of this is complicated. It is just slower than what a cheap bid pays for, which is why a handyman patch usually looks like a handyman patch.
Repairs we have done in the valley
| Repair | Where | What it involved | Days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-room trade patch | Buckhorn Valley, Gypsum | Closed electrical cut-outs in an upstairs hallway, living room and basement family room, matched texture, painted | 3 |
| Ceiling water damage | Bear Paw, Beaver Creek | Cut out a four by four foot wet section, replaced soaked insulation, new drywall, finished, textured, repainted | 4 |
| Stairwell refinishing | Strawberry Park, Beaver Creek | Removed a heavy hand finish from two stairwells and hallways, skim-coated to Level 5, repainted, home occupied | 10 |
| Gallery wall repair | Vail Village | Repeat water damage repair with artwork on the walls and the gallery open | varies |
We have also handled repeated water damage repair for an art gallery in Vail Village, rebuilding and refinishing walls with millions of dollars of artwork hanging around us. Every one of those jobs was contained, dust-free, and finished without closing the gallery. If we can work in a gallery, we can work in your living room.

Working in a home you are living in
Most of our repair work happens in finished, furnished, occupied homes, including rentals with bookings on the calendar. That changes how we work.
We tent off the work area with plastic so dust stays in one room. We cover floors and furniture. We clean at the end of every day, not at the end of the job. If the home is a rental, we plan the repair around the booking calendar. If it is your residence, we tell you which rooms are unusable and for how long, before we start.
The Town of Vail allows permitted construction between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, so we plan around those hours in Vail and around the quiet hours your homeowners association sets elsewhere in the county.
What drywall repair costs in the Vail area
We do not publish a price list, because the same stain on two ceilings can be two completely different repairs. What we can tell you is what sets the price:
- Size and number of openings. One hole is a small job. Six openings in three rooms is a different one, though the second, third and fourth cost less each because we are already set up.
- Wall or ceiling. Ceiling repair costs more. It is slower, it needs staging, and the texture match is less forgiving.
- Wet or dry. Water damage repair includes removing wet insulation, waiting for the cavity to dry, and sometimes returning to finish. A dry hole does not.
- Texture. Matching a heavy hand finish takes a skilled finisher and more time than spraying a common one.
- Painting. Whether we paint the patched area or the whole ceiling changes the cost, and honestly, the whole ceiling is usually the right answer.
- Occupied or empty. Tenting, protection and daily cleanup in a furnished home take labor an empty house does not.
- Where in the county. Travel time into the upper valley in winter is real, and we will show it rather than hide it in a unit price.
The quote is free and comes back within 24 hours of our visit. It covers the repair in front of us, with the scope written down, so you can see exactly what is included.
How to find a drywall repair contractor in Vail you can trust
If you are trying to find someone for a repair in this valley, four questions sort out the good from the rest:
- 1. Will you match the finish, and how? A contractor who cannot describe the finish on your walls is not going to match it.
- 2. Will you paint the full surface or just the patch? Spot painting is the most common reason a finished repair still shows.
- 3. On water damage, what happens to the insulation? The correct answer is that it comes out and gets replaced.
- 4. Are you registered and insured here? The Town of Vail requires every contractor and subcontractor to register before work begins, to show trade competency, and to keep liability and workers compensation insurance on file. We hold that registration and carry that insurance.
You can find plenty of listings for drywall repair in the Vail area of Colorado. What you cannot find in a listing is whether the repair will still be invisible in a year.
Questions we get about drywall repair
How long does a drywall repair take?
Most trade patches are two or three days, including paint. Water damage repair usually runs three to five days because the cavity has to dry. A full room or stairwell refinishing runs longer, up to about two weeks.
Can you match my texture?
Yes, including hand textures. That is most of the skill in this work. We test the match and show it to you before any of it goes up.
Will you repair just one hole?
Yes. Small repairs are a normal part of what we do, and we would rather do your one hole well now than redo someone else’s patch later.
Do you work for homeowners directly?
Yes, and for homeowners associations. We also work with property managers, plumbers and electricians who need drywall closed properly after their own work. You do not need a general contractor to hire us.
Do you handle the painting, or do I need a painter?
We paint. If you would rather use your own painter, we will tell them honestly when the surface is ready.
Is the repair covered by my insurance?
Water damage repair often is, depending on your policy and the cause of the loss. Your insurer decides what is covered. We will give you the repair scope in writing, which is what a claim needs.
Do you do remodeling as well as repair?
Yes. Remodeling, new home drywall, interior plaster and Venetian plaster are all part of what we do. A repair request often turns into a remodeling discussion about the rest of the home once an owner sees what a smooth finish looks like, and we are glad to quote both.
What if the damage is bigger than it looks?
That happens, particularly with water. If we open a ceiling and find the wet area is twice the size we quoted, we stop, show you, and re-quote before continuing. You will not get a surprise invoice from us.
Repair services, remodeling services, and where the line is
A fair number of our remodeling services start as a repair. An owner calls about a water-damaged ceiling, sees what a properly finished surface looks like, and decides the dated texture in the rest of the house can go too. Remodeling in a finished home is the same discipline as repair, carried across more rooms: protect everything, work clean, match or replace the finish, paint full surfaces.
If a repair turns into a remodeling job, we will quote the remodeling services separately so you can see both numbers and decide. We do not bundle a remodeling scope into a repair quote and hope you miss it.
Remodeling services we take in Vail Valley homes includes stairwell and hallway refinishing, bathroom and kitchen drywall during a remodel, basement finishing, garage finishing, new drywall installation for remodeling and additions, and interior plaster, including hand-troweled Venetian plaster. On remodeling work the same rule applies as on a repair: the finish level has to suit the light in the room, which in these homes usually means Level 5 on anything facing a large window.
How to request a quote
Call (970) 977-0247 or send a quote request through the form on this site. Tell us the town, which rooms are affected, whether the surface is wet, and whether anyone is living in the home. We will find a time to see the job, usually within a few days, and your written quote follows within 24 hours of that visit. There is no charge and no obligation for either visit.
Every quote we write says what is included: the number of openings, whether damaged material is coming out, the finish level, how the texture will be matched, and how much of the surface gets painted. That written scope is what lets you compare us against another drywall quote line by line, and it is what we hold ourselves to once the repair starts. If the damage turns out to be larger than what we quoted, we stop and show you before we carry on.
Why Vail homeowners call Showcase Drywall for repair work
Twenty-six years in Eagle County, mostly on Colorado jobs where the finish had to be perfect: Four Seasons Vail, the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek and the Riverwalk buildings in Edwards. The same crews and the same standard do our residential drywall repair work.
We are a faith-based company and a plain-spoken one. We will tell you what the repair requires, we will quote it honestly, we will show up when we said we would, and we will leave your home cleaner than a repair has any right to leave it.
Drywall repair services across our service areas
We run the same drywall repair services in every town we cover. A ceiling in Avon gets the service a ceiling in Vail Village gets: the same protection, the same finish standard, the same painting, the same cleanup. The only thing that changes between these service areas is travel time, and we will show that in the quote.
If you are comparing drywall repair services in these areas and you only remember one thing from this page, make it this: ask what happens to the painting. A repair service that spot-paints is a service you will be paying for twice.
